This is the first in a series of posts that details my experiences on how I lost 40 pounds on the HCG Diet Program. This is my personal experience with what is a rapidly growing new approach to weight loss that many have yet to try. 

The HCG Diet is especially powerful for those of us with metabolic disorders that make weight loss virtually impossible. After personally finding success on the diet I made it my mission to help others with similar struggles.

Hopefully my personal account of the HCG Protocol will assure anyone who’s considering trying the diet of its safety and effectiveness.

Having suffered from hypothyroidism and difficulty losing weight for most of my life I was intrigued by the success stories and clinical reports of the HCG diet. At 5’10 and 175 pounds my weight loss goal was a conservative 15 pounds—the last 15 pounds that I could never seem to lose after years of exercise addiction, starvation & eating disorders.

After growing a few years older, having a wonderful family and a very rewarding career as a Pilates Teacher and studio owner I finally accepted the fact that my body weight of 165 pounds was about the lowest weight I could ever hope to achieve in a healthy manner.

At this point in my life, it was not so much the reports of losing weight quickly and keeping it off that intrigued me, nor that most everyone who had embarked on the program has found success regardless of their previous dieting history.  What piqued my interest most were the thousands of reports of “resetting your metabolism” and “improving your digestion,” two things that continued to plague me regardless of my earlier weight loss methods of choice.

Although I had finally let go of my issues with the scale, I always had to keep an especially tight rein on my food consumption. One very tiny slip, such as a piece of pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day, could mean five months of strict eating otherwise I would find myself twenty pounds heavier by the following summer. That’s just not normal, is it?

But if you happen to have the same physiology as I do, I’m sure you’re nodding you head in agreement right now.

No one really understands what it’s like to have the type of physiology we do. No one with a ‘normal’ metabolism could ever believe that one tiny cookie could create a ten pound weight gain three months from now.

Now, let’s think about the ‘fear factor’ involved with this type of physiology. If you’re like me, you fear the very substance that we need to survive—food/nourishment—and that’s sad. Everything I put in my mouth triggered a computer-like calculation in my brain… “What do I have to sacrifice to compensate for this” or, “tomorrow I have to work out for another 20 minutes.” The stress of simply eating was immeasurable.

People who do not have problems losing weight will be quick to say “it’s all in your head” or even worse, think we’re hiding additional food consumption or are “closet eaters.” Not to imply that’s not the case for some people, but I know of so many who, like me, barely ate all day and still gained weight.

One of the things the HCG diet does is re-train your body to target bad fat cells and function more efficiently. This means that once your diet is over, your body will continue to metabolize fat at a high rate. Another way you are sure of long term success is from learning how to appreciate healthy, whole foods and to combat cravings. The good news is that on the HCG diet this happens naturally and without effort.

The HCG diet protocol is not just about losing a lot of weight quickly; it’s also about resetting your metabolism and setting yourself up for a lifetime of healthy living.

So how much weight did I lose by the end of my program?

After completing a 28-day HCG Diet Injection protocol, I was astounded to find that I exceeded my goal of 160 pounds and reached 140 pounds! Truthfully, I can’t remember the last time I weighed 140 pounds…maybe Grammar school? I was astounded.

The best part of this story is that after completing it over seven months ago I have not regained a single pound. I went through the holidays enjoying foods that I would never permit myself to eat in the past, and if I gained a pound or two it was gone a few days later.

My entire relationship with food has changed. I no longer look at food like “the enemy” I can now relish tastes and aromas and know that I won’t have to pay by starving myself for the next six months.
