“I’m not just the owner of BodyFit Superstore, I’m also a customer.”  Sounds cliché I know, but it’s true. At age 22 I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism. Since then—just like most of you—I’ve spent the better part of my life struggling with weight loss.

During that time, I tried everything. Crash diets, starvation, exercise addiction, eating disorders and a myriad of other forms of self-abuse all in the name of our common goal of losing weight.

I’ve been in and out of the trenches many times (and yes, this is a war), but after finally losing 50 pounds and keeping it off for seven years I know I’ve finally found the answer.

This year marks my 27th anniversary in the Health & Fitness Industry. I have shed the fat that plagued me for most of my life and now enjoy a very rewarding career as a professional Pilates Teacher and Studio Owner (check it out here) and a certified Bulletproof Human Potential Coach.

Hippocrates, considered to be the father of modern medicine, said in one of his most famous quotes is Let food be thy medicine. Sadly, modern dietary guidelines have failed humanity at best. The USDA’s Food Pyramid has been argued to be the driving force behind today’s obesity, diabeties, and heart disease epidemics.

There’s so much contradictory information within a key stroke that people have no idea what’s fact or fiction.

I’ve learned that you have to eat—specifically, high quality protein, but not as much as you’re led to believe by some of the newer fad diets. And increase your consumption of one the world’s most irrationally feared “F” words…healthy FATS.

You see, there’s hundreds of hacks and tips on the internet to help you lose weight. While they all add up and are all worth implementing, nothing is as powerful as what you eat and when you eat it. Period.

And I hope you notice that I didn’t say anything about quantities or calories!
